lola was one week old for her session with me. i wanted to pack her up with my props and bring her home. she’s absolutely perfect!

last wednesday, i got the worst phone call of my life. it still doesn’t seem real to me. my baby-sister, anne-marie, only 15-years old, passed out in my parent’s bathroom and was unable to breathe for some time. she was taken to the toledo hospital pediactric icu where my family spent 5 and half days at her bedside hoping she would wake up. she never did. her funeral was this morning. she had severe brain trama due to lack of oxygen. my entire family is completely crushed. it has been the longest ten days our lives. you can read anne-marie’s obituary here.
i took some of the following paragraph from my eulogy this morning, but wanted to share with all of you as well:
this past September when the school pictures were being taken at airport high school, anne-marie asked me if i would take her picture instead…of course wanting to get a little more stylish than those still shots at school. i had never done a session for her before and i think she wanted her time to shine after sitting back and watching me do all of our nieces and nephews as well as the seniors at her school. i agreed under the condition that she would have to wait until my slow season. after her asking monthly and me putting it off, winter came and we both knew she was going to have to wait even longer. finally last month we had an unusually warm day and my scheduled session just so happened to reschedule due to an illness. my mom asked us not to go overboard as anne-marie was only a sophomore and these were NOT senior pictures. i didn’t go overboard as we only took a few (DOZEN) pictures and poses in various outfits…we laughed and joked the entire time and anne-marie was impressed at how she looked on the back of my camera. i of course went overboard, but will forever cherish those pictures and that morning spent together. she was just as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside and none of us will ever forget her big brown eyes and infectious smile. i’m so glad i did these pictures with her and can only imagine how i would feel right now if i hadn’t.
we love you and will miss you forever, anne-marie! you will always be our baby-sister and now our angel!

Anne-Marie looks like an absolute angel in them, and was so blessed to have a big sister like you. I’m so sorry that this beautiful girl left your life so unexpectedly and tragically. When I look at Anne Marie I see you Sarah. I am so glad that you made the time to spend the day together, that is something you will cherish the rest of your life. As each day goes by and your hearts begin to heal you will all have these precious memories to make you all smile. I never had the opportunity to meet your sister in person but feel in the past several days I have come to see just what a beautiful young woman she was.My daughter is a fellow student at Airport High school and although your sister was an underclassmen, her life has touched the entire student body. As these pictures started to surface last week with the horrible news of what Anne Marie was going through, I thought to myself, what a God send that these pictures existed. Having a 15yr old daughter myself, knowing that high school senior pictures wouldn’t take place for her for another 2 yrs, I was so happy that your family had these. You did a wonderful job. God works in such mysterious ways. We have all been so touched and affected by Anne Marie. A whole community mourns with you. Thank you for sharing these beautiful pictures with us. My name is Jill Caruso and all though I didn’t get the pleasure of meeting your sister or family my son knew them. We would like you to know, we are so sorry for your loss and that we are praying for each and everyone of you. God has a beautiful Angel in heaven now who will be missed by so many. She was an angel here on earth for such a short time. She was such a beautiful young lady because of the outstanding spiritual parents and siblings she had. Her funeral mass was so perfect and the words

I wanted to share that when I saw the obituary (I did not know anything about Anne-Marie), I remember thinking, “Her picture is so beautiful. But she is only 15 (so they couldn’t be Senior Pics). Sarah, one of the women I work with mentioned there was a girl from a family of 9 who lived in Rockwood that had an accident who had passed away and I later learned that it was your sister. Needless to say, I was (and am) shocked. I am so sorry to hear of your loss….Ann Marie looks to be such a beautiful, dynamic girl. Thank God for small blessings and the fact you were able to capture her beauty is such a gift. i did this cute little guy’s session last wednesday, 10 days ago. i usually get my sneak peeks up so much sooner, but life turned upside down since then. it was good thing bowen took it easy on me that day!
